Ula Hwang, MD

Biography

Dr. Hwang is an Associate Professor in Emergency Medicine and Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.  She is also a core investigator in the GRECC (Geriatrics Research, Education and Clinical Center) at the James J. Peters Bronx VAMC.  Her research focuses on understanding and improving the quality of care older adults receive in the ED setting, with a particular focus on pain care, and implementation and evaluation of Geriatrics Emergency Departments. She was a co-lead on the development of the nationally endorsed Geriatric ED Guidelines and is the co-PI on a multi-organizational effort to disseminate and implement recommendations of these guidelines in hospitals across the US. She is the Past President of the Academy of Geriatric Emergency Medicine of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and incoming American College of Emergency Physicians Geriatric Section chair. Her work has benefited from support by the American Geriatrics Society, Atlantic Philanthropies, New York State Department of Health, the National Institute on Aging, Veterans Affairs Health Services Research & Development, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, John A. Hartford Foundation, and West Health Institute.
